M. Planets is a fan-made Metroid game for Windows that adds some modern touches to the original NES version, including saves, a map, and more fluid animations—plus the enemies no longer float through doors and injure Samus between rooms.

There’s also an expanded map with new areas and enemies, which is what I’ve been playing. It’s really good! The map is called “Novus” and you have to download the older version (1.27) to play it. Grab the game from the Metroid Construction forums or the Discord if the former’s Dropbox links are unavailable for whatever reason.
